Atlavox S4 Setup

Quick Start

  1. Install SMA antenna onto S4.
  2. Press power button to turn on.

Your S4 node is now powered on and functioning as a Meshtastic™ CLIENT node.

Configuration

The Atlavox S4 comes flashed with the latest Meshtastic™ firmware and preconfigured to optimize battery life and network rebroadcasting. You can deploy the S4 as-is, or customize the configuration if desired.

PC - Go to https://client.meshtastic.org, click New Connection > Serial > New Device. Plug the S4 into your computer with USB-C, select the new device that appears.

Mobile - Download free Meshtastic™ app. Use Bluetooth PIN 123456 to connect to node.

Charging

The S4 can be charged via solar or USB-C.

Solar - Install mount with provided screws, make sure S4 is powered on, then slide S4 onto mount and secure with provided lock bolt. Angle the mount towards the sun for optimal charging.

USB - Press the power button to turn on the S4, then unscrew the waterproof USB cover. Plug in USB-C cable to charge. (Note that the Solar Charging LED indicator only indicates solar charging.) You can monitor the battery level from the device metrics in the Meshtastic app.

Under normal circumstances, the S4 should be self sufficient and remain operational 24/7 without intervention. The included batteries will power the WisBlock for over a week without any solar input. 2 additional batteries can be added for increased capacity. If the batteries drop to dangerously low levels, the S4 will temporarily cut output to the WisBlock to conserve power for the charge controller until solar is able to charge the batteries again. Once the batteries recharge, output will automatically resume, restarting the WisBlock.

Safety Information

  • Only use new, matching 3.7V 18650 Li-Ion Batteries in this unit.
  • Verify the polarity of the batteries when inserting them, in order to prevent short circuit, fire, or explosion.
  • Operating Li-Ion batteries in extreme temperatures can degrade performance and longevity.
  • Shipping regulations require batteries to be shipped at half charge. You may wish to fully charge device prior to deploying.
