Atlavox Beacon Solar Mesh Node

Title. I was searching for a LoRa node, pre-built that I could mount it on the roof, as well as the roof of the RV, when we travel. I purchased one, which was, “meh”.. Did it work? Yea.. Kinda.. I was able to mount it on the roof, but it would be challenging on our vacations, and mount it up on top of the RV.

After hours of researching, I came across Atlavox. Super customizable, multiple mount options, and well made.

I received it today. I made a few channel configurations while setting it up. It wouldn’t hear! I rebooted it a few times. I thought it was the LoRa antenna. I installed my other antenna (less range) to test. Still wasn’t picking up any nodes!! I should see ~85 where it was placed. I know they wouldn’t show up all at once.

I then reached out to support (via email). Matt replied right away, asking for photos of the pages, which I sent off. They were correct. I’m new to the LoRa hobby, but not starting out. I know how to configure Channel 0 (public).

I then replied that I was going to execute the factory reset. Hoping it would fix the issue. . .

It did!! Thank goodness. I sent put an email that it’s all well.

I have my amateur technician license. Our motto is: “Buy once, cry once.” Sure. The price tag, after adding all of the options you want jack up the price. But, the Quality and craftsmanship that has gone into it, makes up for it.

The Atlavox was my first repeater install. It is up and working fine. The case is very rugged. I may buy another one.

So far its been amazing I have had the beacon for about a week at this point. I received it changed the name and put it on the roof. Signal has been amazing! Battery has been at 97% or higher for the entire 5 days. I would absolutely 100% recommend this to anyone who wants a serious meshtastic/meahcore device. Use it as a repeater, carpeater, Bluetooth node whatever you want it can be mounted almost anywhere and to anything. It has been through 2 storms and had no problems whatsoever. Again 100% recommend.

I could not be more impressed with the ATLAVOX Beacon Solar Meshtastic node. The build quality is excellent. Everything feels durable, intentional, and purpose built for real outdoor deployment. The attention to detail really stands out. Nothing feels rushed or cheaply assembled. It feels like real infrastructure.

When my husband saw what I had purchased for us, he joked that it looked like we were part of the military’s infrastructure. Honestly, he was not wrong. It has that same level of seriousness and professionalism. The enclosure, mounting hardware, and overall presentation make it look like equipment designed to operate reliably in the field for years.

I also loved being able to customize the device to fit my specific needs. Having options and flexibility made it feel less like a generic product and more like something intentionally built for my own setup. That level of thoughtfulness really sets it apart.

I love technology and had been looking for a new hobby that was both technical and meaningful. This device has been exactly that. It allows me to participate with other enthusiasts and finally feel connected to the mesh instead of just experimenting on my own.

After watching the videos on the official ATLAVOX YouTube page and seeing the devices being built and explained in detail, it was clear how much passion goes into this work. You can genuinely see the care, the craftsmanship, and the desire to educate customers properly. That transparency and enthusiasm made it an easy decision for me. I am excited to see this small operation grow alongside the popularity of such a well built and thoughtfully designed product.

My unit arrived partially disassembled for shipping, with the antennas and antenna cables disconnected in the box. I actually loved that. Installing those pieces myself was the perfect amount of participation in the build. It made me feel like I had genuinely helped, even if only minimally, in putting together something very special. Even though most of the work was already completed, finishing those final touches was simple, straightforward, and surprisingly satisfying.

Setup was easy and intuitive. I placed it in a second floor window temporarily and went from seeing zero other nodes in my area to picking up as many as seven. For the first time, I truly felt connected to the mesh. Even sitting in a window, the solar panel has more than kept up with the device’s energy use, and the battery stays healthy and stable. That gave me a lot of confidence in the system before permanently mounting it higher in the spring, where I expect performance to be even better.

I would honestly buy more if I actually needed them, but for now I will just have to convince my friends and family to get their own.

Overall very happy with the new Beacon. I have it attached to the top of a 30' antenna mast. It rarely dips below 90% charged here in Sacramento winter weather. I've seen about 700 other meshtastic nodes so far.

Extremely well built. I was pleasantly surprised with the light weight but sturdy build. It is a very professional looking unit. Talks and listens well in SW Louisiana. Already considering another unit.

So I’ve only been able to do some limited testing due to terrain. With the 7” BLE antenna I got 702ft of range with my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and using a Wio Tracker L1 with an upgraded whip antenna and the 7” Alpha antenna on the Beacon I managed 11.5 miles of range. Solid construction overall, good looking and between the solar panel and the battery it’ll run for a long long time.

Some of the properties that attracted me to the Beacon are the off-the-chart deployment options of the frame. The radio enclosure. And, most importantly [to me] the power button is a hard switch. If you need GPS, your position may be cashed in the mesh, but your station has relocated [scoop & scoot].

Picked up the beacon to act as a mobile relay node on top of my car. Mounted to my roof rack using some unistrut. Rock solid construction, versatile mounting options. Easy to adjust the angle for best solar capture as well as antenna placement. Battery has stayed above 90% most times, only dipping below when we had a couple straight days of heavy clouds and rain. And my unit may be slightly more power hungry having the environment sensor and gps installed. Love the thought that went into designing this unit, and would be happy to add more to my mesh as I need them.

If you're looking for a really well thought out and versatile setup, this is it. With tons of mounting options and quick to set up. The internal components are pretty standard, but overall, the design of the enclosure, solar mounting, the antenna rail and overall appearance is really solid.

If you are looking for a ready to go solar mesh node, this is the best one I have come across.

Plus, the packaging is no nonsense and secure.

I just received the Altavox solar beacon today and while configuring it out of the box inside my concrete block constructed home (not by a window) using the Alfa 5dbi antenna. I found I was able to connect to another meshtastic repeater node, that is approximately 4 miles from my residence. I'm already seeing 57 metastatic nodes appearing in my area and have already stepped my node down to "Medium-Fast" with no loss of the local nodes. This will be going outside later this week when I have my 50ft mast in place to accommodate this new addition to my communications at my house. Speedy delivery, awesome packaging, and excellent customer service every step of the way!! If you’re on the fence due to the price point, don’t be. You really get what you pay for. The product is rugged, and versatile in every way possible. I upgraded the antenna, as well as the Bluetooth antenna, and added the temperature sensor to my package. Happy with the amount of nodes I’m able to pick up in a 180mile radius.

I the beacon is bomb proof! It’s extremely well designed and manufactured. The frame is sturdy and provides several versatile mounting options.

It’s up on my roof for now, where it could stay forever if I want it to, but I think it will shine as a quickly deployed node playing a pivotal role situation where a communication hub is needed. it will easily mount to the reach on my truck (in a static position), or whatever fence/tree/roof/tower/hill that is around that gives it the best position.

After installing the Altavox Beacon on my roof top ~15 feet in the air I was able send/receive messages to another Meshtastic radio (RAK4631) 4 miles (~6.4km) away as the bird flies (distance was later measured with Google Maps). This is as far as I have tested it thus far, but I am happy with these results. The build quality is amazing and I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to extend their mesh. (I've already ordered another beacon!)

High quality solar node. I really like the solid construction including the powder coating. Everything is easy to physically access and adjust. Only think I would change is adding a plastic/rubber washer between the hand-tightening screws and the metal frame to keep it from scratching the finish off when making adjustments.

Atlavox has done a very nice job to package the MESHTASTIC components and we are in process of deploying 11 of these devices around our County to establish a baseline MESH for use by the public and 1st Responders. Atlavox worked with us on our spec and relatively large order. We will be deploying these devices over the next 2-3 weeks. Initial results with (3) of these up in the air around 50' has provided excellent coverage to the center part of our county.
